About Us
The Society for Basic Needs distinguishes itself from other non-profits by its approach and emphasis on fulfilling the basic needs of the underprivileged.
Our Story
The concept of “giving back” is not new to India. We have examples from across the ages, of those who have benefited out of their environment, and, as a debt of honor, contributed freely to it. The Society for Basic Needs has taken its shape from the same ethos of “giving back” to the village(s) where one hails from / has grown up in. Thus the Society was founded on February 6, 2003 by philanthropist and Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Dr. Rao. S. Bezwada. He holds the villages dear to his heart, and is continuously involved in the development of villages in and around the area that he hails from.
The founder and chairman of the Society for Basic Needs and the President of Bezwada Biomedical LLC, Rao is a successful researcher-turned-entrepreneur who deeply believes the development of villages is vital to the progress of India.

Our Approach
The Society identifies and adopts needy villages through a meticulous process to implement its services. A series of steps are undertaken with the community so that the objectives and goals are adjusted to its needs. To identify the needs of the village, the Society conducts a preliminary profiling of the village, covering various socio-economic aspects. The Society then designs solutions while following best practices to operate efficiently.
The Society also builds alliances with governments, non-governmental organizations, corporations, and other organizations. These alliances provide valuable resources to help broaden the scope of the Society’s activities, while adding value to existing programs.
Our Presence
The “Society for Basic Needs” started its operations in Jammupalem Village of Tangutur Mandal, Prakasam District, Andhra Pradesh, India. The Society has worked in a few surrounding villages of Jammulapalem, and we intend to gradually scale up and expand the scope of our activities to the entire district.
Prakasam District is a part of the southern Andhra Coastal plain, lying approximately between 150 30’ and 160 0’ Northern latitudes and 790 0’ and 800 0’ longitudes. It is bound on the North by Mahabubnagar and Guntur districts, on the West by Kurnool district, on the South by Cuddapa and Nellore districts and the Bay of Bengal on the East. The district was named after the patriot and the heroic among the freedom fighters, the late Sri. Tanguturi “Prakasam” Panthulu, and “Andhra Kesari” (Lion of Andhra).
